At Sacred Kindling, we engage truth through beauty as a gift that gives young souls a glimpse of the divine, bringing high theological concepts to a relatable human level, while encouraging deep spiritual engagement.
Sacred kindling exists to present beauty and truth in a culture saturated by empty imagery that diverts us from God. Sacred art draws our minds deeper into the life of Jesus and the Mysteries of our Faith. It leads to prayer and deep reflection where we encounter the truth of God’s love.
Through visual, intellectual and spiritual engagement, we hope to kindle the desire for relationship with God, and open the eyes of young children to the transcendent beauty that exists around them.
“In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art. Art must make perceptible, and as far as possible attractive, the world of the spirit, of the invisible, of God. It must therefore translate into meaningful terms that which is in itself ineffable. Art has a unique capacity to take one or other facet of the message and translate it into colours, shapes and sounds which nourish the intuition of those who look or listen. It does so without emptying the message itself of its transcendent value and its aura of mystery.”
-St. John Paul II, Letter to Artists
“Sacred images in our churches and homes are intended to awaken and nourish our faith in the mystery of Christ.”
-Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1192
“Art is able to manifest and make visible the human need to surpass the visible, it expresses the thirst and the quest for the infinite.”
“Indeed it resembles a door open on to the infinite, on to a beauty and a truth that go beyond the daily routine. And a work of art can open the eyes of the mind and of the heart, impelling us upward.”
“However some artistic expressions are real highways to God, the supreme Beauty; indeed, they help us to grow in our relationship with him, in prayer.”
-Pope Benedict XVI, General Audience August 31, 2011
